Themed: “Enhanced Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Investment and Export Readiness Through a Digital Platform”The programme targets SMEs in Angola Botswana Eswatini Malawi, Lesotho and Zambia that are interested in exporting to South Africa or the United States.

The program focuses on leveraging US Trade Act (AGOA) which significantly improves market access for Sub-Saharan African (SSA), countries that are eligible. It is valid through 2025 and can be used to boost export trade for SMEs.

This new AWIEF program has the following objectives:

  • Increase exports from Southern African countries to South Africa

  • Through the use of AGOA, increase exports from all nine countries in Southern Africa to the US.

  • Companies seeking to transfer specific technology in trade, such as labels, branding, or laboratories, should support them.

The comprehensive 8-week programme will help strengthen participants’ governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management capabilities and will be implemented as an online training course through the AWIEF digital platform – the AWIEF Community.

Irene Ochem, AWIEF Founder and CEO, says: “We are thrilled to have been awarded USAID TradeHub project funding. SME are the engine of African economies. They account for the majority of African businesses. This program supports entrepreneurs from Southern Africa to grow their businesses through new markets and trade beyond their own borders. It is also important for SMEs to leverage the huge opportunities offered by AGOA to enter into international trade with the US.”
