BAYC Instagram Hack, Many Bored Ape NFTs Already Lost

Bored Ape Yacht Club confirmed via Twitter Monday that its Instagram account has been hacked. The hacker posted a link that appears to have led to multiple stolen NFTs.

After clicking the link, Yuga Labs claimed that it had sponsored the page. It called on users to connect their MetaMask wallet in order to be airdropped LAND – upcoming governance and utility token.

Multiple owners claim to have been the victims of this scam.

The scammer’s address has already amassed an estimated $2.7M worth of NFTs – 91 in total at the time of writing. This includes 4 BAYC, 7 MAYC, 3 BAKC, 1 CloneX, & more.

“There is no mint going on today,” tweeted BAYC this AM. “It looks like BAYC Instagram was hacked. Do not mint anything, click links, or link your wallet to anything.”

Multiple BAYC accounts can be opened confirmed that there will be an actual airdrop for BAYC Land, but that the mint doesn’t occur April 30th.

OpenSea – the largest NFT marketplace – has taken down its link to the scammer’s address.

BAYC’s Instagram hack comes shortly after the group’s official Discord was hacked as well. Peckshield, a Blockchain security firm, reported that one Mutant Ape was stolen for more than $68,000.

An additional unfortunate holder was duped into selling his Bored Ape for over half a Million dollars through a NFT swap.

One scammer attempted a similar hack last week on Terra users, using a fake Google Link to phish their private keys. Over $4 million worth of crypto was stolen from his victims in a matter of ten days.
