Xiaomi 12 Pro derivative
Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 flagship processor in early December 2021. It was made using Samsung’s 4nm process. This new processor features significant improvements in CPU/GPU performance compared to Snapdragon888 Plus and Snapdragon888 Plus and has a runtime score exceeding 1 million.
Qualcomm will release an upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen1 processor in the second half this year. This will be a significant upgrade to the 8 Gen1 processor. The biggest change to the 8 Gen1 processor will be the transition to TSMC’s new 4nm process.
There have been a few other phones featuring this chip, including the Snapdragon 8 Gen2/8 Gen1Plus SM8475 gaming smartphone “Lenovo Halo”. A new Snapdragon SM8475 machine is also in polishing at Xiaomi, model L2s. This seems to be a derivative from Xiaomi 12 Pro but will not make its debut until the second half of this year.
The TSMC’s 4nm process is the main highlight of the new Snapdragon SM8475 CPU. Although the industry was skeptical about Samsung’s 4nm process and its market performance, don’t get too excited too soon. There have been earlier news that the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 CPU built on TSMC’s 4nm process is less ideal than Samsung’s. TSMC’s version is limited and can only be described as a small upgrade.
These are irrelevant, however, as we are more concerned about the Xiaomi 12 Pro variant model. The Xiaomi 12 Pro machine has been available on the entire platform, with the 8GB + 128GB versions starting at 4699 Yuan.
