Wahed welcomes a former BlackRock lawyer to help strengthen the global legal team

Wahed Inc.(Wahed), an Islamic fintech company that focuses on Islamic finance, just announced Shahan Jamil, a former BlackRock lawyer, as its Deputy General Counsel, based in London.

In this role, Shahan will be a key contributor to the company’s legal function led by Wahed’s Chief Legal Officer and Global General Counsel, Musa Abdul-Basser based in New York. His duties include analysing laws and regulations to support business development, keeping up-to-date with legal trends in fintech space, as well as providing expertise in EU capital market.

Wahed joins Shahan from BlackRock where he was most recently a consultant lawyer supporting iShares ETFs. Between 2006 and 2016, he was a director in the Funds Legal Team.

Shahan previously served as Deputy Chief of EMEA Legal at BlackRock and Associate General Counsel at Legg Mason Global Asset Management, which was acquired by Franklin Templeton. He also served as Senior Legal Counsel for HSBC Global Asset Management.

During his in-house legal career at some of the world’s largest global asset managers, Shahan has sat on various governance committees and advised senior stakeholders on legal and regulatory risk whilst adopting a commercial approach to solving business and legal issues.

Shahan started his legal training and became a corporate and funds lawyer at Pinsent Masons in London. This included a client assignment to the Product Legal Team at Man Group in Switzerland. He received his law degree from Kings College, University of London.
