Microsoft Edge allows file sharing between your smartphone and your PC via Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge will soon include Drop, a useful new feature. It allows users to transfer their files onto other devices using the internet browser.

Microsoft Edge has been updated with many new features over the years. The American giant’s hard work has paid off as Edge is now the 2nd most popular browser in the world. As of early May 2022, Edge offers a built-in free VPN, although it remains less effective than a classic VPN.

Edge will soon add file sharing as a new feature. We currently have options to transfer files between devices. Generally, users send their files by email or opt for Google Drive, which recently also allows you to use keyboard shortcuts to copy, cut and paste.

Microsoft intends to offer another alternative to its users. According to Neowin, the American manufacturer is currently working on a native function which will allow files between devices that have the browser installed.

Drop is a side panel that allows you to drag and drop files and notes to transfer them to your Android smartphone. To make the operation work, you will need to log in to Microsoft Edge on both devices.

FILE SHARING BETWEEN DESVICES WILL BE EASIER THROUGH MICROSOFT EDGE BROWSER

It is possible to drop files from OneDrive. Microsoft‘s cloud storage solution. In the column, you can see the remaining space and how much is occupied. Drop also shows a QR Code that allows you to download Edge Mobile. This is useful if your smartphone does not have Edge. Unfortunately, it’s impossible for the average user to try Drop at this time.

Edge Canary 104, the most recent developer-only browser version, is the only version that has this feature. Neowin’s screenshots clearly show that you can activate Drop in this case from the Browser Settings Appearance tab.

Microsoft is also testing a feature that allows users to import data from Google Chrome into Microsoft Edge each time they launch their browser. You can also choose which elements you want to import. It can import bookmarks, browsing history and saved passwords. Cookies, open tabs and browser settings are all included.
