moa raises $44M in Series B Financing

moa Technology Limited, an Oxford, UK-based crop protection discovery company, raised $44M in Series B funding.

The round was led by Lansdowne Partners with participation from Oxford Science Enterprises, Parkwalk Advisors, BGF Investments, Bits x Bites Growth Fund, IP Group, and University of Oxford.

The funds will be used by the company to expand its pipeline of crop protection products that combat weed resistance. It will also allow the company to expand its high-throughput, in-vivo screening platforms and advance its lead portfolio.

Led by CEO Virginia Corless, moa has developed its own discovery platforms focused on the discovery of a new generation of sustainable herbicides from both natural and synthetic chemistry.

GALAXY TARGET, SELECT and GALAXY are three of its proprietary platforms. They use miniaturized living plants and techniques in genetics and phenotypic analyses to screen thousands of synthetic and natural chemistries in order to identify those that work differently. This approach has already resulted in an order of magnitude increase of the rate at which new interactions between chemistry & plant biology have been discovered. These novel interactions could be used to control weeds in safer ways.
