It’s been a while since the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6T were released. So it is not surprising that OnePlus announced that they would be discontinuing software support for both devices.

These phones were released around 3 years ago. Typically, Android handset manufacturers support their devices for approximately 2-3 years in terms of major updates. We are not too surprised that OnePlus fulfilled its promise to support 3 major updates.

The company posted on the OnePlus forums. It stated, “After 3 major updates, more than 3 years worth of updates, over 60 Closed Beta builds, and over 30 Open Beta build it’s now the right time to close a chapter and announce the end to OnePlus 6 and 6T officially software support.” This also applies to security updates.

When they launched the OnePlus 8, they made a policy change. They said that they would provide at least four years worth of security updates and three years of major updates. However, this only applies to the OnePlus 8 or newer. It looks like the OnePlus 6T and the OnePlus 6T will not be able to take advantage of this.
