Plaid hires Head Europe for rising demand

Plaid, as it expands across Europe, an open finance data network and payment platform, has named Ripsy Bandourian its first Head of Europe. Based in Amsterdam, Ripsy will lead the business strategy and operations for Plaid’s Europe arm as it moves into its next stage of growth.

Ripsy spent eight years with leading product, marketing and partnerships teams in Amsterdam. She has extensive knowledge in technology and operations and is able to drive scale consumer experiences. Ripsy was previously a consultant at McKinsey, worked on emerging markets at Apple in London and started her career at Goldman Sachs as a quantitative analyst.

Ripsy’s appointment is crucial to growing Plaid’s European businesses and supporting fast-growing fintech and companies outside of financial services, as they respond to changing consumer behaviors in the region. Recent Plaid research has shown that mobile payments are now used by more than a third of the population, compared to when they used credit or debit cards. more people now use fintech than social media. Fintech is becoming increasingly important as digital payment methods and embedded financing become more essential. This will lead to more companies turning to fintech to improve customer experience and accelerate checkouts. Plaid will allow these companies to unlock new possibilities to better serve customers.

Ripsy’s appointment follows a period of significant growth for Plaid in Europe, highlighting the demand from customers wanting to use smoother and simpler methods to manage their finances. Plaid doubled its payments platform’s volume in the first quarter 2022 and increased its staff by 30%. Plaid recently added open bank payments capabilities for Italy and Ireland. Plaid also offers Account Information Services to the UK, France and Germany as well as Payment Initiation Services for the UK and France.
