SNAPDRAGON GEN 2: Specifications, who will make it

May is almost here, and there are already many Android flagships 2022 on the shelves. Most of the flagships feature the top-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. Reviewers and ordinary users complain about this SoC due to overheating problems and hope that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will heat up less.

It is assumed that the entire point of the chipset design and optimization by smartphone manufacturers is the main focus. It is hoped that smartphone manufacturers will pay more attention to adapting the work of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 because Qualcomm It does not intends to alter the architecture. According to the well-known insider Digital Chat Station, work is underway on the successor to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1; and the cores in it will be located in three clusters according to the “1 + 3 + 4” scheme. They will include a Cortex X family super-core, three high performance cores and four energy-efficient cores.

They are launching a 5G Snapdragon X70 modem that boasts a peak data download speed up to 10 Gbps. A new neural engine is also promised. This will allow for faster execution of machine learning and artificial intelligence-based operations. The SM8550 model number for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was given, and the announcement is expected to take place towards the end of the year. Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC was responsible for the production of the chip. The processor will likely be made again according to 4-nanometer technology standards.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC; which will appear in the new Samsung foldable smartphones, will get a delay before entering the market.

Initially, Qualcomm’s plan was to announce the platform in May, but now there is a delay in dates. According to a source, the final decision will be made in the second half year. These are very vague dates, but the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Fold4 will launch in late August or early September; so Qualcomm’s new product should already be ready by that time.

This is due to China’s COVID-19 pandemic. This has caused factories to be closed and many companies’ plans to be canceled. Remember that the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra is the first smartphone to have the new Qualcomm SoC. The Edge 30 Pro received the Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 first, so this seems like a good choice.
