Theromics Inc. is a West Bridgewater-based medical device company that develops novel technologies for drug delivery and interventional radiology. It closed a $2M seed funding.

Maroon Venture Partners and Beacon Angels Boston were among the participants. STARmed Co. Ltd was also included as an investor.

The company plans to use the funds for HeatSYNC(TM) development, a thermal accelerator gel that optimizes and enhances soft tissue thermal ablations. FDA-required testing will be done to ensure regulatory clearance. The research is currently being conducted or planned to be at prestigious research institutions such as Dartmouth College and Brown University, Purdue University and Kansas State University.

Theromics’ CEO Ronald Murphy is leading the development of next-generation thermal accelerator technology for soft tissue ablation and combination therapy. HeatSYNC(TM), the company’s proprietary gel, is based upon a protein naturally present in the body. This may increase cost-efficiency and improve outcomes through more patient-centric delivery. Theromics will initially focus on tumor ablations and expand to other applications such as pain and abnormal uterine bleeding. The company intends to use its thermal technology as an oncolytic intratumoral medication/immunotherapy delivery platform. This will allow for increased efficacy and safety of existing approved medicines.

Theromics has also announced John L. Brooks III joined its Board of Directors. John L. Brooks III, the Managing Director at Healthcare Capital LLC, advises early-stage life science companies. He was the former President and Chief Executive Officer at the Joslin Diabetes Center. He has also co-founded seven life science companies, including Insulet(PODD), which is a disruptive insulin delivery business. He was also a co-founder and current member of the investment team at Maroon Venture Partners.
