TileDB Receives Investment From Verizon Ventures


TileDB, Inc., a Cambridge, MA-based database company, received a strategic investment from Verizon Ventures.

The deal’s amount was not disclosed.

Verizon joined investments made by Lockheed Martin Ventures AMGEN Ventures, Lockheed Martin Ventures and NTT Docomo Ventures.

The company plans to use the funds for the acceleration of the development of advanced features in its universal database as well as to scale up go-to-market functions.

TileDB founder and CEO Stavros Pagopoulos uses multi-dimensional arrays as a model and storage engine for any data backend. You can then analyze the data with any programming language. It consists of TileDB Embedded, an open-source storage engine for arrays, and TileDB Cloud, a universal database that offers secure governance, and serverless distributed compute, along with data, code & model sharing for highly performant analysis and ease of collaboration.

TileDB, Inc., was spun out from MIT and Intel Labs May 2017 and is backed in part by Two Bear Capital (Nexus Venture Partners), Uncorrelated Ventures, Intel Capital, Big Pi, and Big Pi.
