Treepz, which has acquired Ugabus, a Ugandan mobility startup and raised $2.8m seed capital, announced a partnership with CMS Taxi & Motor Nigeria Limited (CMS T&M), an established traditional bus company based in Lagos. Treepz will offer convenient payment options to CMS T&M customers and predictable travel times through Treepz’s technology.
According to the startup, this move is consistent with its mission of providing commuters with affordable, convenient transport within cities across Africa. Treepz technology will enable the CMS T&M management digitize ticketing, as well as create a transparent system that allows bus operators to operate across its axis.
CMS T&M, formerly Taxi Drivers Friendship Association, was founded in 1968. The 53-year-old licensed shuttle company operates in the Central Business District, Lagos, including Marina, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, and Lekki. They have high-capacity buses as well as minivans.
CMS T&M has over 1.2 Million passengers per year and provides transportation that makes it easy for workers, students, traders, and others to commute within the city. It includes 7 cooperative associations. Each association contributes a member to its Board of Directors.

CMS T&M will now be able to offer different options for their 1.2million annual customers to buy their travel tickets. We also provide transparency and an efficient method to manage their operations using our technology. This will improve the daily commuter experience in Lagos and start the digitization of Nigeria’s transportation system.

Treepz is present in Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana with the Transportation Operator System. This system provides Bus Parks and Bus Operators access to the latest technology that will allow them to digitize their services and increase their customer base while also managing their revenue.
Treepz will provide the technology necessary to enable transportation industry stakeholders to move away from cash-based transactions, paper ticketing, and to understand customer inventories.
Treepz stated that they have an existing partnership with 12 bus operators. These include Libra Motors, EFEX Transport Service and ABC Transport. Anambra Executive is a list of intercity transporters who have a combined fleet of 1,500 vehicles.
Treepz provides services such as bus rental to schools, hire to companies for staff buses, and technology to support state transport systems.
