What is Azuki? The NFT Collection: All you need to know

The Non-Fungible Token ecosystem (NFT), is growing fast. Hundreds of projects are created every day — some of them enjoy rapid success in the market due to their quality, uniqueness, communities, originality, art, and vision, while others flop quickly.

Talking about rapid success, Azukis — hand-drawn digital samurais and smoking skateboarders — have quickly turned into the next NFT blue chip.

This guide will take you through the collection and all it has to offer.

What are Azuki NFTs?

Azuki is a digital brand that is most associated with the 10,000 avatars it released by an artist group based in Los Angeles on January 12, 2022.

These avatars are unique because they were based on anime-themed drawings, which has attracted the attention of NFT fans around the globe.

An Azuki membership grants access to NFT drops, streetwear collaborations, live events and many other benefits. The Garden. This place is described by its creators as “a…”

“corner of the internet where artists, builders, and web3 enthusiasts meet to create a decentralized future.”

All Azukies have different traits regarding hair, background, clothes, and different wearables — some Azukies hold swords, a cup of coffee, a skateboard, or a Boombox.

Azuki coming to Prominence

Azuki NFTs were a very popular topic in the crypto community due to their anime-style aesthetic, but also because they outranked some of the largest names in NFT markets in terms of volume sales shortly after their release.

The Azukies were launched just months ago and already have a huge following. This collection is regarded as a blue-chip in the NFT community, alongside other popular collections such as CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club. Its total sales volume, at the time of writing, is slightly below 190,000. This value currently stands at $540 million.

Before we jump into what is making Azukies so popular, let’s take a look first at the project’s history and its creators — we’ll also provide details about initial and current prices and how well they are doing in the NFT market.

Who’s Behind Azuki NFTs?

Churi Labs is behind Azuki NFTs. This startup is composed of several individuals with extensive experience in crypto and gaming. All of them are joining forces to bring a recognized brand to the metaverse.

They keep their identities anonymous for the most part. And while their identities might be anonymous – their work speaks for itself.

The founder of this project is known online as the Twitter handle Zagabond. He claims to be a former employee of many industry-leading companies, including Google and other decentralized projects.

The project’s other main members are HoshiboyThe lead designer was. Tba, a software engineer that claims to have previously worked at Facebook (META), and 2PM.FLOW – another engineer.

The Azuki team is extremely secretive about who they really are and what their past experiences were. Forbes reported Zagabond that this is how Zagabond described it.

“There’s a mystique and magic and allure to something where the project isn’t really about our identities and our past experiences”

Zagabond said that they would eventually have their identities doxed. However, for now most of the developers will keep their personal data behind closed doors. Anonymous developers aren’t that uncommon in the crypto space, anyway – the team behind Bored Ape Yacht Club was also anonymous before getting doxxed.

Credited as a co-creator is also Arnold Tsang – a well-known conceptual artist from Toronto, Ontario. He is best known for his past work in the gaming sector, including the popular first-person shooter Overwatch, which was funded by Activision Blizzard.

Tsang, alongside the team, will work towards turning Azukies into something more than just digital collectibles — they want to build a sustainable business by bringing in new revenues to the company, including the launch of the Azuki clothing line, which is already being designed and issued, and hopefully reach TV shows and the film industry.

Azuki NFT Floor Pricing: How it All Started and How It Ends

The Azuki collection debuted on January 12, 2022, with an initial release of 8,700 avatars — each priced at $3,400 at that time.

In a matter of minutes the collection was sold out and accounted for approximately $30 million in sales. Following the public sale, the creators had a private offer in which they sold additional sets of Azuki NFTs worth $2 million.

Quickly since the reveal, the collection’s floor price took to the skies and was already sitting above 10 ETH less than a month later. However, it wasn’t until late March 2022 when Azukis absolutely exploded in popularity, and their floor was inching towards 40 ETH.

It also resulted in the sale of the most costly Azuki NFT (at this time). According to TraitSniper, it was the Azuki #9605, ranked second. The collectible was sold for a staggering 420 ETH and was valued at over $1.4million.

Why are Azukies so Popular?

Azuki’s rapid rise to the top of the cryptocurrency market is due to many factors. Art is number one in most people’s eyes. It occupied an important niche within the field of NFTs – anime – and it set the standard for hundreds of projects after it. The Avatars are aesthetically pleasant and in the words of Zagabond – it just “resonates” with the audience, especially in Asia, where anime is a lot more popular.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with Asian investors who told me that this was the first NFT that they purchased.”

Tsang, on the other hand, says that Azukies capture the “rebellious culture of skateboarders,” adding that it connects well with the crypto community.

It’s also important to note that the overall market strategy of Azuki seems to be working pretty well. After the series began to catch on, the team announced a highly anticipated airdrop to its holder, thanking them for their loyalty, while also advancing the Azuki brand to a higher level.

The BEANZ Collection

At the time of this writing, there’s not a lot to be said about the BEANZ collection as there’s still a lot that the team hasn’t revealed – which is another reason for the project’s status as a blue-chip.

BEANZ is a collection that hasn’t seen its reveal yet, as the beans themselves remain unrevealed. On March 31st, they were dropped to Azuki holders and each holder received two brand-new NFTs. Each holder was given two BEANZ. The floor price of 5 ETH is approximately $14,000 per holder at the time of writing.

Explaining the collection, later on, Azuki’s team said:

BEANZ is a small, self-sown species that grows in the garden. Although they are a great sidekick, some prefer to go it alone.

They’re earnestly driven by the desire to help. But, some BEANZ feel a call to forge their own path.

Once born, users can pair BEANZ and their Azukis with no need to alter the original NFT. Two of the ten BEANZ characters, which total ten, have been revealed to date.
