Back in February, Google announced that YouTube Music on Wear OS would soon be able to stream music over WiFi or LTE without the need for a phone to be nearby and connected. Wear OS users will see the new feature, along with a Tile to speed up access, starting this week.
Google explains this streaming feature as one that’s available to YouTube Premium subscribers, so you’ll have to fork out monthly cash in order to do this.
Streaming via your watch and not having a phone nearby allows you to access 80 million songs, thousands of playlists, and many other features all from your wrist. Google is calling it a standalone app, and the “first” from YouTube Music to allow this experience. Well, yeah.
The YouTube Music Tile will be available as an option once you have the latest YouTube Music update. This Tile, like other Tiles will allow you to quickly search for music or access your current play list. To add it, you’ll swipe to the right where Tiles live, long-press, and then add it. You can also add it using the Wear OS app.
